Classic nineteenth century European imperialists believed they were literally on a mission. I don’t believe that the imperialists these days have that same sense of public service. They are simply pirates.

Clients do not expect the infrastructure to be any less reliable just because the service is being delivered from an offshore location; thus, the uptime requirements justify the expense.

Clients don’t expect perfection from the service providers they hire, but they do expect honesty and transparency. There is no better way to demonstrate this than by acknowledging when a mistake has been made and humbly apologizing for it.

Colonial governors and senior civil servants are not easy people to argue with, and I was not popular because of my criticism of the colonial service in Kenya.

Coming from TV and film, rule number one is that you always service the main character first and foremost. If that’s not working, you’ve got nothing.

Commerce has changed the ethics of citizenship and the incentives for national service. America now buys private contractors – we used to call them mercenaries – to do the country’s fighting.

Commercial real estate always trails residential, and as residential growth flourishes, shopping centers flourish and service the communities, and jobs come out.

Communication services need interoperability to succeed – and Loopt is the first such service since SMS that is available across all major U.S. wireless carriers.

Community service has been a great thing for me.

Companies are starting to measure how effective their customer service is and trying to understand what they can do to improve the customer service process.

Companies like Spotify, the new Apple service, and all the others are really going to have to pay artists more. And I think it’s a matter of time; I think a lot of these companies and the individuals that are involved in them realize that as well. Cops can deprive people of their freedom. They are sworn to serve and protect. They work for us and they belong to, basically, a service industry, laboring in conditions that are sometimes threatening, often dangerous yet interesting.

Cops in New York City don’t have the best reputation. It’s a fast-paced city, and they deal with a lot, and many people have seen lots of cops interact with the public utilizing what can be gently called ‘not the best customer service.’

Corporate conglomerates run without regulation do not work in the service of society, and run reckless and unchecked whenever possible.

Corrupt bureaucrats and cops ought to dismissed or compulsorily retired from service, as they are a drain on the service. Their performance must be vigorously assessed.

Creativity is down the tube. And people give a lot of lip service to individuality. I know they all appreciate it, but they all say they would like to do it, but they don’t want to work at it, and it doesn’t come out of the sky.

Critics might contend that putting former private-sector CEOs in the president’s Cabinet places the fox in the henhouse. But it’s unlikely such executives would expose themselves to the headaches if they weren’t genuinely motivated by the call to service.

Cryptocurrencies are not evil and are not for money launderers and scammers. They are for entrepreneurs, technologists, change-the-world dreamers, and anyone who believes they can (and will) enable new business models, new types of organizations, and new ways to service consumers and businesses alike.

Culture’s essential service to a religion is to destroy intellectual idolatry, the recurrent tendency in religion to replace the object of its worship with its present understanding and forms of approach to that object.

Customer service is just a day-in, day-out, ongoing, never-ending, unremitting, persevering, compassionate type of activity.

Customer service teams at many companies have already embraced social media, often out of necessity.

Customer service, they say, is dead. Actually, it isn’t. It’s just hiding behind a call center in Manila.

Customers buy Basecamp without ever having to interact with us. If they do have a question, we handle everything via email. We’ve been in the business of automation. We’ve never really valued full service.

Delivering a service that consumers feel truly connected to and providing an experience that people love and love to organically share and talk about is the most effective form of marketing I know.

Demands for equal financing of sewers, streets, and garbage collection would make more sense than proposals for equal financing of the schools, since some plausible connection may be inferred between the amount of money expended, e.g., for roads, and the quality of service resulting to the taxpayer.

Design is the fundamental soul of a man-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service. The iMac is not just the color or translucence or the shape of the shell. The essence of the iMac is to be the finest possible consumer computer in which each element plays together.

Dictators, unlike Democrats, depend on a small coterie to sustain their power. These backers, generally drawn from the military, the senior civil service, and family or clan members, have a synergistic relationship with their dictator. The dictator delivers opportunities for them to become rich, and they protect him from being overthrown.

Disinterested public service has become, just so… what’s the phrase, ‘old school.’

Disney World is exactly the wrong description of how the Secret Service should operate in public. Their jobs are not about pleasing adults and children, but rather protecting the president and the first family.

During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.

During the election, I had three male opponents and we went into a runoff. The front runner for the men was a native of Dallas who had run at large before, but I had a higher profile than him from my community service.

DURING the first years of my service in Dr. Flint’s family, I was accustomed to share some indulgences with the children of my mistress.

During their service, men and women in our Armed Forces live by a common creed, promising never to leave a soldier behind. We should live by the same principle. When our veterans are asked to travel hundreds of miles for care that’s offered right next door, we simply aren’t living up to that standard, and something has to change.

During Vietnam, I was in college, enjoying my student deferment. The government wisely felt that, in my case, military service was less important than completing my studies to prepare me for my chosen career: comedian.

Each heartfelt prayer, each Church meeting attended, each worthy friend, each righteous decision, each act of service perfomed all precede that goal of eternal life.

Each year, we learn that customer service diminishes. You may argue it’s because the IRS budget has been cut, but I’m going to argue that it’s because the IRS chooses to spend its funds in other areas like the Affordable Care Act, bonuses, and conferences.

Everything that is large and institutional should be distrusted, even though it may be the best around. The Internal Revenue Service doesn’t trust me, so why should I trust them? It’s a quid pro quo arrangement.

Few service industries are designed to be 24×7 in India, and thus there was no 24×7 mentality.

Financial service providers act as the lubricating oil in the economy. They link consumers who want to invest their savings for a good return with companies who want to borrow on best terms for expansion.

Financial services have always been about trust. Perhaps the biggest barrier to entry has been getting new customers to trust an unknown brand or service, and that’s particularly true with digital disruptors who lack a physical presence on the local high street.

Firms need to ensure that their ability to provide effective customer service keeps pace with their growth. If you’re marketing your firm to new customers, you better be able to provide them service when they do business with you.

For me, good service is efficient and discreet; it’s that critical balance. As soon as the client sits down, the communication flow has to start. Customers need to feel that the waiters are supervised – that there’s a system in place.

For me, I don’t want to cheat the game by saying, or kind of doing lip service by saying, I want to be the greatest ever. I want to be able to show it.

For me, if I have done my duty, the continued approbation of Congress and the Marine Committee will make me rich indeed, and far more than reward me for a life of service devoted from principles of philanthropy, to support the dignity of human nature.

For me, there can be no higher public service than serving as a member of the U.S. Supreme Court.

For me, when working on a film or play or television show, everything for me starts with the screenplay and I am devoted to that and that is what I work from. Any research I do or any preparation I do on my own is all ultimately in service of that.

For whatever trauma came with service in tough circumstances, we should take what we learned – take our post-traumatic growth – and, like past generations coming home, bring our sharpened strengths to bear, bring our attitude of gratitude to bear.

Health care historically has been a very siloed field that’s organized around medical specialties – urology, cardiac surgery, and so forth – and around the supply of these specialty services. The patient is the ping-pong ball that moves from service to service.

Health care is a service that we all need, but just like food and shelter, it is best provided through voluntary and mutually beneficial market exchanges.

But if you look at this objectively, we’re doing so well on so many of these things. I think it’s important to have gratitude for that.

I always thought when I hit 50 years old that’d be it for the travel. I don’t have to tell you – you wait at an airport, your flight’s delayed, get on a 14-hour flight, get off, get stuck in traffic, you get to the hotel and the room service is closed.

I began writing when I was still in the British Foreign Service, and it was then understood that even if you wrote about butterfly collecting, you used another name.

I believe if a private citizen is able to affect public opinion in a constructive way he doesn’t have to be an elected public servant to perform a public service.

I believe if you start a business with the intent of making it huge, you’re already prioritizing the wrong thing. Size is important, but it’s a byproduct of a whole bunch of other things that are worth way more of your mental energy – customers, service, quality.

I believe in a company that combines service and product offerings which are a bit different from other industries.

I believe it’s important that we ensure that the police have a modern and flexible workforce. I think that’s what is necessary, so that they can provide the public with the service that they want.

I believe that as public servants, we have a shared goal – to deliver to Americans the service they deserve and expect.

I believe the best service to the child is the service closest to the child, and children who are victims of neglect, abuse, or abandonment must not also be victims of bureaucracy. They deserve our devoted attention, not our divided attention.

I believe the National Park Service has demonstrated strong partnerships geared towards respecting the private property of citizens in its administering of the current Trail of Tears National Historic Trail and will continue to do so upon the addition of the routes.

I believe we do have a great intelligence service. Is it good enough in all circumstances? Of course not. We live in the human condition. We try to make it better each day.

I believe we need to attract a new generation of the best and brightest to public service and I believe that government can be a source of inspiration, not degradation.

I can assure you, public service is a stimulating, proud and lively enterprise. It is not just a way of life, it is a way to live fully.

I can be standing in Barneys with my coat and purse and my selections, and some white woman will say, ‘Can you get this in my size?’ What she sees is a black woman, and her service button goes off.

I cannot support keeping our brave service men and women away from their families without a clear need or purpose that would actively benefit the people of Wisconsin or our nation.

I can’t pretend to be objective when it comes to service or sacrifice.

I certainly feel a strong call of public service.

I certainly have opinions about things, but we’re a service organization. Our job is to try and realize the director’s vision.

I chose to take the oath of office with my personal copy of the Bhagavad Gita because its teachings have inspired me to be a servant-leader, dedicating my life in the service of others and to my country.

I come from a family in which public service was something to aspire to.

I come from a family of working people. My parents were Guatemalan immigrants who spent most of their lives in the service industry.

I come from a middle-class family, where you grow up thinking about government service. But when I went to Harvard, I saw that entrepreneurs and business leaders were just like me. It gave me a feeling that I could also do such things.

I consider myself lucky to have been born into a family that valued service to both one’s country and one’s community.

I considered our British comrades to rank with the finest men and women of any armed service in the world. And I know that my fellow American soldiers – and those of the other coalition countries under my command – valued very highly the professional expertise, capability, courage, and determination of our British partners on the battlefield.

I dare suggest that the composer would do himself and his music an immediate and eventual service by total, resolute and voluntary withdrawal from this public world to one of private performance and electronic media.

I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.

I definitely have a strong sense of my Jewish and Israeli identity. I did my two-year military service; I was brought up in a very Jewish, Israeli family environment, so of course my heritage is very important to me.

I did grow up in a household where the narrative was about public service and how are you going to effect change and help people. I’m so glad I grew up around that narrative, but I never had the calling to go out and shake hands and try to get elected.

I did my military service from 1989 – 92 and I was never shot at or had to fire on anybody. I was very lucky. I was more involved in intelligence and counter-intelligence.

I did not come to Augusta to provide lip service. I came to work for the Maine people. I also came to Augusta to root out crooked politicians and government corruption.

I did not know that if a member of a family serves, the whole family serves. I did not know that the spouses of our service members carry such a heavy load.

I did not want to avoid service. I did realize reservists could be called up, and that it was something that I wanted to do.

I did work at a mall in college – I think retail/customer service is just one of the most hideous jobs in the world. So I always try to be extra nice when I go into a store. But malls are part of our culture, if you watched any teen comedy in the ’80s. it’s clear that malls are where we live!

I didn’t get into acting to be a public service announcer or an advocate and yet, by virtue of this show and how we handle the subject matter that we’ve been given, that’s kind of how it’s evolved in certain ways.

I didn’t leave bodybuilding until I felt that I had gone as far as I could go. It will be the same with my film career. When I feel the time is right, I will then consider public service. I feel that the highest honor comes from serving people and your country.

I do believe very much in the idea of unexpected or ‘convulsive’ beauty – beauty in the service of liberty.

I do believe we have to understand why reality turned out to be different than expectations and estimates. But you have more public service – certainly many of you – than I have ever had, and you recognize that this is not unusual.

I do engage veterans. I meet with the veterans’ service organizations monthly. It’s a direct, no-holds-barred discussion. I travel to their conventions, where I speak to the veterans membership. I do travel. I’ve been to all 50 states. When I do, I engage veterans locally. So I get direct feedback from those veterans.

I do have very high customer service standards – I’d send back sushi because it’s too fishy.

I do not believe that people should steal music, but I think that fans need a better alternative, hence why I am such a fan of Apple, where you can simply buy a song for $0.99; it is very easy, it is a value-packed service… and this is a result of the shakeup… something has to happen in the music industry.

I do not demand equal pay for any women save those who do equal work in value. Scorn to be coddled by your employers; make them understand that you are in their service as workers, not as women.

I do not know what the spirit of a philosopher could more wish to be than a good dancer. For the dance is his ideal, also his fine art, finally also the only kind of piety he knows, his ‘divine service.’

I do not subscribe to a feminism that demands perfection or super heroic nobility of women. But I do insist that putting women at the service of patriarchy is no victory for us.

I do not think this makes a lot of sense, and I think we should rely on the Park Service to implement the regulations that they have in place with the restrictions so that people can enjoy our parks.

I do think that in a digital future, consumers will increasingly turn to brands that they trust. Trust, security, and service are even more important in a digital world.

I don’t care a damn for your loyal service when you think I am right; when I really want it most is when you think I am wrong.

I don’t have a crazy rider clause saying I have to stay at fancy hotels. I don’t have a problem with staying at a Marriott. But I will admit that I’ve gotten just basic, regular service there.

I don’t know if I would ever truly want somebody’s life in my hands. I think what these people, what doctors and nurses and public service employees do on a day-to-day basis, is unreal, and it takes a special type of person to do that – and I don’t think I’m that type of person. I’m happy to play one on TV.

I don’t know if I’d want to be a Secret Service agent. In the movies, it’s exciting and romantic and all that. Really, most of their job is standing in a hallway for 12 hours making sure somebody doesn’t come through a doorway off of a stairwell.

I don’t know of any Internet service that opens on a regional basis.

I don’t know why comedians moan about touring; you get driven to a town, stay in a hotel, work for an hour and a half with nice people, and eat fatty service station food. There’s nothing not to like.

I don’t like the royal family, I don’t like the establishment, I don’t like the civil service.

I don’t like to pay lip service. I don’t frankly like to talk about stuff.

I don’t like to sit still for long at all, which has probably helped me along the way, and partly why I was drawn to the heat of a restaurant kitchen. The rush of service means that you’re always on your toes and keeps a chef pretty active.

I don’t miss the bureaucracy of being in the Army. But I still love the relationships you can build. And it doesn’t have to be in military service – it can be anything you’re doing with someone that matters. You develop a bond.

I don’t see that anyone owes me anything for my service. I don’t feel any sense of entitlement.

I don’t think BuddyPress will be something you use instead of your existing social networks… but if you wanted to start something new maybe with more control, friendlier terms of service, or just something customized and tweaked to fit exactly into your existing site, then BuddyPress is a great framework to use.

I don’t think my approach to acting is all necessarily in service of the character. I think, selfishly, I’ve put it in service of myself, my perspective on the world and helping my life.

I don’t think my basic business strategy is well known by the public, probably because people think it’s too simple. My strategy has always been to try to focus in on a product or service where you can create a dollar of value for 20 cents and sell it for 40 cents.

I don’t think you can create effectively toward expectation. I’m not in the service business.

I don’t understand why people expect tips. In hotels you order food in your room, and it’s already more expensive from the room service menu, so it’s a cheek to expect a tip on top. I do sometimes reward good service, but it should be at my discretion, and I’m not going to be held to ransom.

I don’t want to do anything that capitalizes personally on the fact that I’ve been in public service.

I don’t want to do business with those who don’t make a profit, because they can’t give the best service.

I don’t want to run for governor, but I don’t think anyone should put public service out of the question because that’s not what a good citizen does.

I don’t want to sound like Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells, but I do think there should be some sort of national service for young men.

I entered the health care debate in response to a statement in the United States press in summer 2009 which claimed the National Health Service in Great Britain would have killed me off, were I a British citizen. I felt compelled to make a statement to explain the error.

I favor a system where students in publicly funded institutions make a commitment: if they do well in the private sector, they will revert a certain percentage of their income to the education sector; and if they devote some years to public service, their debt will be forgiven.

I feel bound to respect Ronald Reagan, as every American should – not least because he chose a career of public service when he could have made a lot more money doing something else, and not least because he took genuine risks for peace.

I feel every technology can be abused, but fundamentally we put new technologies into the service of humanity.

I feel glamour has a legit place on the ramp and in the fashion world. In films, glamour has to service the story.

I feel like I am in the service of the poem. The poem isn’t something I make. The poem is something I serve.

I feel like I have had the most amazing life in my public service.

I feel that business leaders with their ability to create businesses, with their ability to scale, need to play an important role in social service.

I feel that I, and the people under my command, tried to use all the traditional methods of recruiting agents which were also used by other intelligence services; adopting also means like pressure, money, sex – but that did not characterize my service.

I feel that my father’s greatest legacy was the people he inspired to get involved in public service and their communities, to join the Peace Corps, to go into space. And really that generation transformed this country in civil rights, social justice, the economy and everything.

I feel that the BBC World Service is not as versatile as it used to be – or perhaps I’m not listening at the right times.

I find a difference in British spy fiction and American spy fiction. In the American version, it’s more militaristic, partly because the CIA has more of the military makeup. Whereas MI6 is more of a cerebral, intelligence-based, relationship-based service, i.e., all they do is recruit people to get information out of them.

I find that often, room service menus are highly condensed. They tend to be a little bit fast food-oriented, even at the finest hotels.

I firmly believe that everyone should have to work in the food service industry at least once in their lives.

I fought as an infantry Marine on one of the Vietnam War’s harshest battlefields. After leaving the Marine Corps, I studied law and found a fulfilling career as an author and journalist. But again and again, I came back to the personal fulfillment that can only come from public service.

I found it very helpful not to do the venture round. Instead, I started with very little money, a few thousand dollars, and I did every job myself. I was the first photographer. I was the first customer service rep. I was the first online marketing person.

I frankly think we in the financial service world believe we need appropriate kinds of regulations. No question about that. But when something like Dodd-Frank has been created, sort of in the mystery of night, it is a huge document. It’s vast. It weighs about 10 pounds when I carry it around.

I fully support the goal of species protection and conservation and believe that recovery and ultimately delisting of species should be the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s top priority under ESA.

I go back and think of President Kennedy, who had a military service background, but he comes into the presidency, and he’s faced with a decision on the Bay of Pigs, with the C.I.A. and the military giving him data, and it turns out very badly.

I got a call from my agent; I’m out in the boonies. They’re like, ‘Where you at? The Warriors are trying to call.’ I’m like, ‘Hold up! I’m on the lake, and I ain’t got no service.’ So I had to drive two miles up the road so I could get service and take the call.

I got invited to the White House, and I tried to sleep there overnight without permission. The Secret Service came to my house, and I had to talk to them. They legally couldn’t do anything because I didn’t do anything wrong, but they yelled at me like a principal.

I got more whistleblowers from the Secret Service than I do anywhere else. And if you look at that department and agency, it’s the one place you can never, ever, ever make a mistake – ever.

I got my service dog when I was medically retired out of the military, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I wish every medically retired serviceman could have a service dog. He’s amazing. He’s my best bud. I go everywhere and anywhere with him.

I grew up assuming that I would be in public service. I never planned to be in business.

I grew up in a family that was committed to service, to reaching out and helping others. That’s what inspired me to work in public service.

I grew up in a house full of books, and we belonged to the Country Lending Service – each month the State Library would send us a parcel of books by train.

I grew up in a house where service to the country was a way of life, not a means of reaching a personal goal.

I grew up in a Navy family, and like most service families, we traveled a lot and moved a lot. I grew up on both coasts and in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., in Rockville, Maryland, and have had a great time doing it.

I grew up in Del Mar, Calif., north of San Diego. I got my first job the summer after eighth grade at a small Internet service provider.

I grew up thinking that I would be an ambassador secret agent. From age 14 to right before I graduated college, I was really interested in the foreign service and the United Nations. I learned to speak French, Turkish, and all these things.

I grew up with this crazy upbringing of living many places and always being the new kid in town, not like a service brat where you’re always going to school with other new kids in town. I was constantly arriving in small towns and going to school with kids who’d been together since they were in kindergarten.

I had a big problem working with stars, because they are too expensive and have too many demands. Their names help you raise the money to make the movie, but then they demand close-ups. They change things. You end up doing things at their service instead of servicing the film.

I had a lot of time to think in the service; I swore that, if I survived, nothing would keep me from an acting career.

I had a relationship with John Wooden. I spoke at his memorial service.

I had a very strong feeling about the Vietnam War, and I had a strong feeling about participating in it. The military draft was in place, I was summoned for a physical exam, and I was either going to be classified as fit for military service or make my objection to it. So I made my objection to it.

I had an uncle who was a postal official at the Polish post office in Gdansk. He was one of the defenders of the Polish postal service and, after it capitulated, was shot by the Germans under the provisions of martial law. Suddenly he was no longer a member of the family, and we were no longer allowed to play with his children.

I had examined myself pretty thoroughly and discovered that I was unfit for military service.

I had gone to law school thinking that I would do something in the service of black people.

I had never had a particularly warm feeling about Richard Nixon, and it didn’t get any warmer after my service.

I had planned to spend my 40s continuing my public service and starting a family. I thought that by fighting for the people I cared about and loving those close to me, I could leave the world a better place.

I had seen the films out of World War II, the great 82nd Airborne, the 101st, and all of those of you in the greatest generation and the service that you had provided.

I had the Secret Service actually patrolling my block at some point. I didn’t sign up for that. I went to work to write speeches for Barack Obama!

I had to leave school at 14 because my father got injured in the mines and I had to support my family. I was an undertaker’s assistant, then a plasterer, before doing my military service in the RAF. All the while, I was doing amateur dramatics and dreaming of getting a scholarship to the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

I happen to think CHIP has done a terrific job for for people who really needed the help. I have taken the position around here my whole Senate service. I believe in helping those who cannot help themselves but would if they could.

I hate it in America where the protocol seems to be you are expected to tip regardless of the quality of service. I like to tip when it’s not being demanded of me, and if the service has been good, I tip quite generously.

I have a lifelong devotion to public service.

I have a lot of family members that served in the American military. I did not serve; I filled out the selective service. It’s one of the regrets for my life.

I have a proven record, a record of accomplishment, a record of cutting taxes, of shrinking the government, of reforming education, of challenging the status quo, eliminating career civil service protections, shrinking the government workforce by 11 percent, but leading the nation in job growth.

I have a secret thought from some things I have observed, that God may perhaps design you for some singular service in the world.

I have a world of respect for Congressman Dold and the service he’s given to our country.

I have always been involved in some philanthropic work – growing up in the church, you always had to have a reasonable portion of service to the community and to people who have less, who need a helping hand. It’s just something in my heart that I know needs to be done.

I have always been very open about my respect for public service.

I have always considered that my collection must have an international flair so it can be at the service of the European public. Or to people in Asia. Yes, there are tiny little alterations I notice in the proportions of the outfits, but fundamentally, the collection is that way.

I have always that there ought to be some kind of mandatory national service, not necessarily in the military but to show everybody that freedom isn’t free, that everybody has an obligation to the nation as a community.

I have always told anyone who would listen that I was available for more public service.

I have an open door to meet with my constituents and that I work hard to respond to their needs, and I’m proud of the constituent service that we provide.

I have asked to have no funeral, and no memorial service. I hate other people’s and would certainly not appreciate my own.

I have been in ‘Star Wars’ since I was 20. And they’re not just doing some goofy sequel, like, to service the hunger of it. It actually has been thought out and it has integrity and they took it seriously, which they didn’t have to do, you know? It’s hard to do, given the appetite and the angles from which everybody’s coming at it.

I have connected by phone with customers who have left negative reviews and had a chance to get to know them. Not only was I able to solve their problems, a lot of the customers were so happy with the customer service that they become repeat customers.

I have considered the subject of missions nearly a year and have found my mind gradually tending to a deep conviction that it is my duty personally to engage in this service.

I have created a life style that supports contemplation, service to words.

I have done a pretty good job of partitioning my life digitally, posting utterances and stories that I’m happy to share with anyone on Twitter, leaving a few sparse comments and ‘Likes’ on Facebook (I’m not a huge user of the service, I’ll be honest), and sending any number of photos to thousands of ‘followers’ on Instagram and Tumblr.

I have encountered those who feel that libraries have served their purpose and are no longer needed. There are those who consider them a soft target when it comes to local authority budget cuts. In certain political quarters, there is a refusal to see that our public library service needs active protection.

I have expressed a very strong view that no health minister on their own can turn the health service around.

I have gone from a proponent of campaign finance reform to a revolutionary during my time in public service.

I have had a career in public service.

I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust.

I have invested at least 20 years in business and my own reputation. I’m excited to come into public service, because I think I have something to offer and to contribute. In no way will I put myself in a position of undoing what’s taken 20 years to build.

I have lived a long life, and I am proud that I spend the whole of my life in the service of my people. I am only proud of this and nothing else. I shall continue to serve until my last breath, and when I die, I can say, that every drop of my blood will invigorate India and strengthen it.

I have never had a problem with national service. I am not sure the draft is the way to go about it, but I am positive that you live in a society and you take from this society, which every citizen here does. You owe something back to this country, and that should be paid back in some form of national service.

I have received so many messages of support from across the country – women and men speaking out because they agree that contraception needs to be treated as a basic health care service.

I have so much respect for people in the service. The mental strength it takes to do what they do is unbelievable.

I have spent many years working in education and media, from hosting documentaries to being a spokesperson for Discovery Education to revolutionizing youth environmental service through my non-profit, EarthEcho International.

I have worked in the federal government and saw the debilitating effects of our antiquated civil service system on morale and results.

I have worshipped woman as the living embodiment of the spirit of service and sacrifice.

I haven’t heard any music on the BBC World Service in a long time. Maybe I’m listening at the wrong times. But not one single piece of music.

I imagine if Spotify becomes something that people are willing to pay for, then I’m sure iTunes will just create their own service, and they’re actually fair to artists.

I introduced myself to then-Lieutenant General Petraeus and told him about my research interests; he gave me his card and offered to put me in touch with other researchers and service members working on the same issues.

I joined the Indian Police Service as a tough woman, a woman with indefatigable stamina, because I used to run for my tennis titles, etc.

I joined the Navy hoping to be submariner and ended up in the sub service aboard a tender in the Pacific.

I just don’t believe in the basic concept that someone should make their whole career in public service.

I just have these terrible memories of our first European tour back in 2007. We had hired this van and tour service from the former Czech Republic called Fluff Wheels, and they sent us out with this 19-year-old vegan driver kid who had no money and refused to eat anything.

I knew that if we were going to actually defeat Harry Reid, we had to have a candidate who would offer a sharp policy contrast. Someone who would not just pay lip service to limited government principles, but had a solid record of voting that way time and again. I’m that candidate.

I know nothing worth the living for but usefulness and the service of my fellow-creatures. The only object I pursue is to increase, as far as lies in my power, the quantity of their knowledge and goodness and happiness.

I know only a few ways to take market share and drive new revenue. I can engineer better products and services, I can build better relationships with my customers and deliver a higher level of service, or I can give my customers a lower price.

I learned that most people buy based on emotion, not on a rational breakdown of the product or service.

I learned that public service is a privilege that must be based on moral foundations.

I like being on a plane with no phone service because I get so much work done.

I like the desert for short periods of time, from inside a car, with the windows rolled up, and the doors locked. I prefer beach resorts with room service.

I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching.

I like to think of film-making not just as an act of personal self-aggrandisement but rather as an act of public service.

I like touring, and I like stopping off at service stations and driving along motorways.

I liken the Queen thing to being in a worship service. Everyone comes having grown up with this music. It’s in their blood, in their souls. Every night, it’s always a huge standing ovation.

I lived at the Gramercy Park Hotel for about 10 years. It was terrific. It was a pleasantly run-down hotel of the ’70s and ’80s with a mix of older, rent-controlled apartment dwellers, Europeans and new wave and punk bands. The room service was great, the hamburger was terrific, and they had a doctor who made house calls.

I look at each day as a chance to move one notch above yesterday – whether it’s in service quality, delivery, speed, or any other aspect of the business.

I love helping people; just being of service makes me happy!

I love my service; I’m going to finish my four years and be very proud of it.

I love room service!

I love the opportunity to tell stories that people should know. I think it puts what we do as actors on the level of nurses and doctors. It takes us out of this idea of entertainment into an act of service.

I love ‘O Holy Night.’ On Christmas Eve, there’s a service at the church where I grew up, and at midnight, we would always sing, ‘O Holy Night’ with candles.

I loved my mission in Switzerland and Germany. As I left on the train from Basel, Switzerland, tears flowed down my cheeks because I knew then that my full-time service in the Church had ended.

I make documentaries from time to time to remind myself of reality. It’s like musicians doing scales to keep their fingers working: when you’re in the street, listening to people, you’re forced to be in the service of your subject.

I may be leaving the Senate, but the next chapter in my public service is just beginning.

I may have grown cynical from long service, but this is a tendency I do not like, and I sometimes think I’d rather be a dog and bay at the moon than stay in the Senate another six years and listen to it.

I met Peter O’Toole for the first time at Dad’s memorial service because my Dad didn’t hang around with people like that when we were around. We didn’t grow up with Richard Burton coming around to tea.

I missed so many opportunities along the way to do what I wanted to do because I didn’t have the confidence to tell myself, much less anybody else, ‘Yes, this is the business I wanted to be a part of, and not feeling that I had the talent… and letting it go all the way through Notre Dame and then through two years of Navy service.

I must repeat what I asserted formerly, that unless some happy expedient can be fallen upon to induce the seamen to enter into the service for a longer term than twelve months, it will never be possible to bring them under proper subordination; and subordination is as necessary, nay, far more so in the fleet than in the army.

I need to be very isolated to write, and unfortunately isolation is often quite difficult to find. My ideal writing environment would be a country house hotel in the middle of nowhere, with full room service.

I never believed that my service in the U.S. Congress should become a permanent career.

I only have an awareness of what I’m trying to achieve as an actor and what my job as the character is to service.

I passionately support Hillary Clinton for president because she has devoted her life to public service and has been willing to learn and change along the way by listening to the people she serves.

I pray to be of service to the playwright, the audience, the other actors and my character.

I prefer playing characters that are going through turmoil. Most movie characters are just in service to the story.

I prefer to bring these to the service of story rather than to let them replace narrative.

I realised that you can never legislate away from piracy. Laws can definitely help, but it doesn’t take away the problem. The only way to solve the problem was to create a service that was better than piracy and at the same time compensates the music industry – that gave us Spotify.

I really believe my greatest service is in the many unwise steps I prevent.

I really believe waiting tables, and service industry jobs in general, make you a better person.

I really do believe that was what I was put on this planet to do: to give to people and, through my performances, show them another world – in the case of ’24,’ to show them what a politician, black or white, should be. Basically, I wanted to be a service to others.

I really don’t like plays or movies that service propaganda.

I really don’t think of power. I think more of service to the people of my state.

I really feel that most things are difficult at the beginning and they become fun, something you love, only after you’ve worked at them. Making children do something hard can, in the long run, be a great parental service.

I really thought, with my background growing up, and my service, and all that, I thought it would be enough for the presidency. But… It sure was enough when I ran for Congress.

I really want to institute a culture that has nothing to do with shots or minutes or anything like that. It starts with a foundation of service.

I refused to adopt civilian way of life and slowly influenced my civilian surroundings to do things the military way. My civilian career as an entrepreneur and founder of a defense contracting company has been an extension of my military service.

I remember telling President Carter on his first night, when I was escorting people around, that I was interested in continuing public service and that politics didn’t matter – but it does, doesn’t it?

I returned to India after long years of international service, because I had always cherished the desire to make a difference in my own country.

I sang at the Inaugural prayer service at the National Cathedral.

I saw courage both in the Vietnam War and in the struggle to stop it. I learned that patriotism includes protest, not just military service.

I see artists as the first responders. And when the proverbial crap hits the fan, we are there to be of service, to tell the story, to bring a balm, to soothe, to provide catharsis. You know, not to make our work any more important or less important, but just that there is a great importance to it.

I see everything I do as an extension of the ministry. It’s all about service.

I see myself in public service in Zimbabwe. I would prefer an advisory role – cabinet secretary, minister of trade or the arts, or something like that. I don’t want to be just a writer.

I see people all the time today, and they really don’t care if their doctor is of Pakistani origin; what they care about is that they are getting a good service, and these are people that they do really see as British. I do think society has changed very positively like that.

I signed up for military service in the months following 9/11, and later, as a military intelligence officer, I felt called, like so many others, to volunteer for deployment and service in Afghanistan.

I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.

I so respect Sen. McCain’s service to this country, and no one certainly knows more about torture than he does, and so I recognize that.

I spent five years working very hard to develop a relationship with the veterans’ service organizations. We have together worked some major projects.

I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country’s most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General.

I spent two years in the military service, then I trudged around in repertory for quite a while. I somehow wound up at the National Theatre, though, and then I was definitely on my way.

I spoke to a million in one service, in Korea, in Seoul. And that was the largest audience I ever have had.

I started out in journalism in the mid ’90s working for the sister wire service of the ‘Wall Street Journal,’ which is called Dow Jones Newswires. Then I joined the ‘Journal’ in its Brussels bureau back in 1999.

I started out in public service in 1998 after the Asian financial crisis of ’97.

I started working in the oilfield upon graduating high school. I was on the service end of it, driving tank trucks for Johnny Geer for a couple years and learning about oil and gas production. I had a whole cadre of mentors.

I started writing it the day after Sept. 11. I was living in New York City. We didn’t have any phone service and we didn’t have any mail. Like a lot of writers do, I started to write in a voice that I missed.

I still, at hotel rooms, I do this one sort of not-so-cool thing: continually shoving my room service tray in front of someone else’s door. Because I don’t want the remnants. I don’t want to be caught, like, being like the pig that I was at two in the morning.

I take a very different approach to public service. I’m a person that always takes it out in the streets and in the courts… the tool box that is attached to me is very diverse.

I take cabs if I need to get somewhere or I take car service. I don’t drive, I wouldn’t mind riding a bike… People think that because you become an entertainer you gotta have this rock star thug image. I’m an artist, man. I’m going to live like an artist.

I tell my employees that we’re in the service business, and it’s incidental that we fly airplanes.

I think a lot of people will be liberated from a lot of oppressive manufacturing jobs, or a lot of service jobs, because they’ll be done by computers. There’ll be the world’s best education available online and free.

I think Al Gore has done a great service in making global warming cool. He’s basically taken it from a nerdy, almost ignored issue to making it what it is – namely, a problem.

I think anything which promotes heterogeneity on the Internet promotes stability. Diversity in services, service providers, and separating the layers of the networking stack are all important.

I think environmentalists do no service to their cause by taking fundamentalist stances. I am not defending corporate India’s track record, but for many environmental problems, there are technological solutions.

I think every leader must possess vision, and they absolutely have to have a heart of service.

I think first and foremost everybody should understand that Canadians are strongly committed to the system of universal health insurance, to the principle that your ability to pay does not determine your access to critical medical service.

I think for Amazon’s customers, it offers a kind of addictive service – the ability to shop without leaving your house, the ability to read without going to a bookstore or a library.

I think health care is a mess. I think that, as a free market person, you can’t even have that discussion unless you know what the service costs.

I think Hillary Clinton could do whatever she puts her mind to. I really do. She’s incredibly dedicated to public service, she is smart as a whip, and she’s effective.

I think if you look down the road for Twitter, we would like to be a company – a service – that is used by billions of people around the world in every country in the world because we feel that the power of Twitter is that it brings people closer to each other, to their governments, to their heroes, etc.

I think it is important to differentiate between lip service towards something and actually making change.

I think it is only natural that people have anxiety about the economy because the economy is real. It is their job, their ability to service their mortgage and look after their family. And in the final analysis, nothing is more important than your capacity as a breadwinner or an earner to provide for those that rely on you.

I think it’s a violation of user privacy to continue storing email addresses if you tell users your service is shutting down. I sign up for a service, and if you’re no longer providing that service, why should you keep my information?

I think it’s important for service to be a part of your life instead of an option. It’s awesome to make it a point to do something that’s gonna make the world slightly better than you left it.

I think it’s perfectly just to refuse service to anyone based on behavior, but not based on race or religion.

I think I’m in the service business. I mean, our sandwiches are pretty good; I don’t know if they’re extraordinary. But our service is.

I think I’ve been very, very lucky in my life, and I do believe in public service.

I think journalism is a great way to do public service, to have an impact on your community.

I think lawyers who engage in pro bono service to protect those who cannot help themselves are truly the heroes and the heroines of the legal profession.

I think leadership is service and there is power in that giving: to help people, to inspire and motivate them to reach their fullest potential.

I think my mom and dad knew from the very beginning that I was destined to go into public service.

I think my service is better than my food… I focus so much on the service.

I think of digital as a means to an end: How do I service and get more loyal customers, how do I achieve operational excellence, and how do I change my culture?

I think one of the things that, at least, I found out over – and many have in the industry – is that of all the customer service desires and needs, price is one of them.

I think one purpose is very clear among corporations and business leaders: make profits, deliver high return for stockholders, conquer markets, service consumers and create jobs. But in today’s world, demands from corporations and leaders are much more than that. We need to understand what people really want at the very end.

I think overall, and this isn’t specific to Spotify or any streaming service or any label… when you consider the overall value chain of the music industry and how important the songwriter is to the business – I think there needs to be another look at the value chain.

I think people instinctively know that their job is to give service and that they are part of a community. It had a great impact on me when my father walked the picket lines and I walked with him during the civil rights movement.

I think private school is much better at customer service and making the parents feel better, especially in Los Angeles. It’s almost like a spa for the parents where you drop your kids off, where they give you a beautifully baked thing and let the parents write their own newsletter about global warming.

I think public service is a calling and you do it as long as the things that brought you into the office can continue getting you up in the morning and as long as there’s still work to get done.

I think service is honorable, and that was always inculcated in me.

I think that if the Postal Service dies, it will be the end of democracy as we know it.

I think that public service is tough on a family – no ifs, ands, buts about it. I have my own personal wishes, but they’re not always front and center.

I think that sometimes, as producers, we just service the artists who’s really just the main front or person. You know, our roles are really just to help them get where they’re supposed to go.

I think that’s where the world is going. People will not own cars; they’ll have a service that takes them where they want to go, when they want to go there. And that’s what Uber is.

I think the British people are very, very attached to the idea that the health service is free at the point of use. But there is no reason why every doctor, nurse and teacher in this country has to be employed by the state.

I think the most important reason for our success is that very early in our quest into globalisation, we invested in people – and we have done that consistently and particularly in the service business.

I think the relationship between cable and satellite and telco pay TV service providers and the content industry is a very, very solid one.

I think the Right did us a service calling Obama a socialist for eight years. It inoculated us.

I think the rise of A.I. is bigger than the rise of mobile. Large companies are sometimes as worried about startups as startups are about large companies. Ultimately, it will be about who delivers the best service or product.

I think there’s a fine line, and once you cross it, you are in a dangerous territory of overhyping your company, your service, and your product and sort of under-delivering. But I think we probably could have been a little more overtly confident in the early days.

I think there’s no higher calling in terms of a career than public service, which is a chance to make a difference in people’s lives and improve the world.

I think Uber is a good car service, but Lyft is going after a much bigger problem in trying to make life without a car possible and reinvent the way people get around cities.

I think what is happening is I think first of all there is confidence in the U.K. economy. We’re in a German rather than a Greek position in international financial markets, which is very positive and keeps our debt service costs down, and we’re also beginning to see real evidence of rebalancing.

I think, like a lot of other people who have been in the service, you’d been delayed in what you were doing. You wanted to catch up and the best way to catch up was to move as fast as you could toward a degree.

I thought Paulie could jump. I know he’s not fleet of foot, but at least have some hops. I guess we know who is not going to win a gold glove. I was trying to become a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service.

I thought the Secret Service would protect me from the press, but they were at my house to protect me from assassins with guns, not with assassins with pencils.

I took my iPod to the Apple store here in Manhattan and asked them to replace the battery. And they explained to me that Apple does not offer a service to replace the battery in the iPod, and my best bet was to buy a new iPod.

I try to support local traders. The service makes up for any extra cost.

I try to use whatever I know about photography to be of service to the people I’m photographing.

I urge the enactment of a civil service law so explicit and so strong that no partisan official will dare evade it, basing all rewards, promotions and salaries solely on merit, on loyalty and industry in the public service.

I used to be a pretty hard-core iPhone fan. But over time, I grew more and more frustrated with the lousy service on AT&T. My iPhone simply could not reliably make and hold a phone call. Not just in New York and San Francisco, where I spend a lot of time, and where AT&T’s service has been notoriously bad for years.

I used to work at a hotel. I was the order-taker for room service. My mom worked at the hotel as an accountant.

I utterly respect that there are lots of people who do service jobs and deserve our respect, because they make our world function.

I value public service and I’m relatively good at organizing political causes.

I want a news service that tells me what no one knows but is true nonetheless.

I want a president with a record of public service, someone whose life’s work shows our children that we don’t chase fame and fortune for ourselves: we fight to give everyone a chance to succeed.

I want a president with a record of public service: someone whose life’s work shows our children that we don’t chase form and fortune for ourselves; we fight to give everyone a chance to succeed.

I want POM Wonderful to be within arm’s reach of everyone who wants it. That is the biggest service I can do.

I want the BBC to be a mass market public service broadcaster still funded by the licence fee… and the licence fee is more durable than many people in the commercial sector believe.

I want the Forest Service to look at a vista with scenery, not only at lumber with a price tag.

I want to go out and do things… not just stick around having room service for two days.

I want to go where I can be of the most service to the general enterprise.

I want to recognize and thank all Guard members for their service. It means so much to our state and our country.

I wanted to be of service to the Peace League, and how could I better do so than by trying to write a book which should propagate its ideas? And I could do it most effectively, I thought, in the form of a story.

I was a full-time mom for seven years. You go back on tour, you’re back in hotels, you’re ordering room service, and you’re getting an itinerary slipped under your door every, day. You’re kind of thinking, ‘Did I go home for seven years, or was that just a dream?’

I was always complaining that there weren’t enough good people going into public service, so I figured I had to get behind someone I found so compelling.

I was always the weirdo who wanted to have an egalitarian service in synagogue and felt I was always going against the grain.

I was an entrepreneur myself and often say that I’m on loan to public service.

I was an online service provider. It’s not my job to police what people are uploading. It’s the job of the content owners, and the law is very clear. If you create content, and you want to protect your copyrights, you have to do the work.

I was at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, and I was performing at a show there. Jimmy Carter was going to be coming through with his Secret Service detail. The manager pulled me aside, and they didn’t want me to shake Jimmy Carter’s hand because they were afraid it would make the news if I stole from him.

I was born into public service.

I was born out of due time in the sense that by temperament and talent I should have been more suited for the life of a small Bach, living in anonymity and composing regularly for an established service and for God.

I was doing shows and flying economy, and nobody ever fed me. Or I’d be staying in hotels so cheap that by the time I’d get in, there wasn’t any room service. I didn’t eat for a long time. Not on purpose. You’d be on shoots with bad food or get on a plane, and the food would be so disgusting you couldn’t eat it.

I was ever of the opinion, that the honest man who married and brought up a large family, did more service than he who continued single, and only talked of population.

I was extended secret service protection during my presidential run in 1984, when I received the most death threats ever made toward a candidate.

I was fortunate to have served in leadership positions throughout my entire service in the Army. I was in my first unit for two or three months before deploying to Desert Storm. I immediate knew I was in the right place.

I was in high school – and I went to an all-boys Catholic high school, a Jesuit high school, where I was focused on academics and athletics, going to church every Sunday at Little Flower, working on my service projects, and friendship, friendship with my fellow classmates and friendship with girls from the local all-girls Catholic schools.

I was looking for some way to put my music to some service on a nightly basis. You go into a town, you play a little music, you leave something behind. That idea connected us to the local community. It was a very simple idea, but it really resonated with me.

I was nominated at first by a group called Justice Democrats. They were trying to essentially field non-corporate candidates in the 2018 midterm election. They were looking for people with a history of community service, and my name had come across their desk, and they called.

I was only ever part of ‘Lost’ – a very small part of an extremely talented writers’ room, where as a writer, it’s sort of your job to sublimate your ego and work in the service of the show and the show’s voice.

I was raised in a family dedicated to public service.

I was raised in a spirit of the importance of service to your fellow man. My mom is a senator back home in South Africa. My father is a very caring and generous individual.

I was raised on the values of speaking up and making a positive difference in a very political family that believed in the importance of public service.

I was raised to be in service to something larger than myself. A lot of actors concentrate on what they will get out of the profession, rather than what they can offer it. The way I see it, if you come with something to offer, you can offer it forever.

I was the first Navy, Marine or Air Force person who had been an astronaut to return back to the Air Force. I had certain expectations about what would be a reasonable and desirable position to be assigned to after my years of service.

I was thinking I wanted to finish my life there in Hungnam doing pro bono service.

I was told by my grandfather who was a minister that we all were put here on earth to be of service to one another, and it is quite gratifying to know that if I am able to be of help to one that is not able to help themselves then I am fulfilling my obligation as a human being.

I was with Ted Turner when he came to see Kofi Annan – the Secretary-General of the UN – to announce his decision to put $1 billion to the service of UN projects and programs.

I was with the CIA for only three years. I worked in the Directorate of Operations, which is now called the National Clandestine Service. It’s the part of the organization where the spies live. I didn’t have much experience beyond the training.

I was working at the telephone company in the late ’80s as a service representative.

I was working in customer service and had a verbally abusive boss. One day, I decided to quit and pursue my acting passion with everything I had. One week after quitting, I booked ‘One Life to Live.’

I was young, out of the military service in Israel. I was looking for a big adventure, and I was searching for it.

I wasn’t born, I was ordered from room service.

I went into a Beverly Hills shop to buy an attache case. They had 250 cases on their shelves. I asked an attractive saleswoman if they carried one made of belting leather. She said ‘no.’ That was the end of the conversation. She made no attempt to show me another case that would provide equal service. I didn’t buy an attache case.

I went through a period when I did military roles and played basically someone who was unfit for military service.

I went to a church where you could not sing out loud in the service until you had been saved.

I went to work for the Civil Service. I’d wanted to work for the Ministry of Defence because I had some far-fetched idea that it had something to do with the Avengers, but I ended up in Social Security.

I will be sent back to Washington, D.C., with the grace of God and all the Alaskan voters out there because all Alaskans have asked me to go back and continue my service.

I will complete my second term, but I have made no decision as to my plans after Congress except that I will continue in public service, including as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve.

I will devote my body and soul to the service of the people and the nation.

I will do what the Prime Minister asks me to do; that is my consistent approach to politics and to service.

I will never work merely to make a reputation for myself, to be popular for appearances rather than for what I am. My task is to lead my country through service.

I will not put the life of an American service member on the line unless that is the option of last resort.

I will not seek reelection the United States Senate but will retire from public service in January 2013. There is no reason other than the fact than I think it’s time.

I will provide friendly and courteous service and will work closely with all departments in the county. I will abide by the Texas Information Act in providing information to the public.

I will work to ensure Duke Energy is positioned to continue its track record of outstanding customer service and operational and financial excellence.

I wish every American had an opportunity to sit down, to go to a base, to meet with families, to meet with service members, to sit down with our veterans – because we would think differently about our challenges as individuals.

I wish to be useful, and every kind of service necessary to the public good becomes honorable by being necessary.

I wish we had a system where you are given a bill including service and that people were paid properly so they didn’t have to rely on tips. In different restaurants there are different policies and it’s all very confusing.

I worked at Ikea as a customer service rep for two years and loved it.

I worked at Sears in the Woodfield Mall as a gift wrapper. I’m actually a great gift wrapper, and the customers were so nice to me. I was only 16, and eventually Sears put me in customer service because I was so friendly.

I worked in the NHS as a hospital orderly during my national service, and people thought it was a noble service. But over the years it’s lost its humanity.

I worked on the United Parcel Service truck, I sold home delivery of milk. But always, in the back of my mind, I wanted to get into radio.

I would have ‘Call of Duty’ be an online subscription service tomorrow. I think our audiences are clamouring for it.

I write pretty quickly. Write pretty fast. I was an old press service man. That was part of the necessity of that occupation.

I wrote a song that basically turned into a public service announcement for the fellas out there, like, ‘Should you run into this type of woman, run for your life!’ So the name of the song is ‘Run,’ featuring the rapper ScHoolboy Q. It’s one of the standouts on the album, in my personal opinion.

If a newspaper is to be of real service to the public, it must have a big circulation: first, because its news and its comments must reach the largest possible number of people; second, because circulation means advertising, and advertising means money, and money means independence.

If a woman can, by careful selection of a father and nourishment of herself, produce a citizen with efficient senses, sound organs and a good digestion, she should clearly be secured a sufficient reward for that natural service to make her willing to undertake and repeat it.

If all you’re doing is playing it safe – trying to make the same movie over and over again – that’s when the audiences say, ‘Oh, this is just a moneymaking machine.’ But if it’s genuinely in service to the art form, then the franchise concept is being used in a way that’s exciting.

If art can be at the service of anything, it’s about letting us see a state of grace for those people who rarely get to be able to be seen that way.

If I could give you information of my life, it would be to show how a woman of very ordinary ability has been led by God in strange and unaccustomed paths to do In His service what He has done in her. And if I could tell you all, you would see how God has done all, and I nothing.

If I don’t get the service or if I don’t the ball in the box, where I want it, I start drifting into midfield. I go and look for the ball. I try to be important for the team in other areas.

If I had been censured every time I have run my ship, or fleets under my command, into great danger, I should have long ago been out of the Service and never in the House of Peers.

If I had to work a 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. job in the public service, I’d freak out.

If I have done the public any service, it is due to my patient thought.

If I have my way, I’m going to dissolve the Forest Service. They’re in the business of harvesting trees and they’re not harvesting trees, so why have them anymore?

If inequalities of taxable wealth backing up a government service are construed as denying equality before the law, then there is no solution but to have every government service whatever financed out of Washington.

If I’m successful in fooling a wire service, I don’t really have to do anything else to promote the story.

If life only has the meaning you bring to it, we have the opportunity to bring rich meaning to our lives by the service we do for others.

If people use Chrome, we make less money on our service and that’s fine by us because that is fair competition. I wouldn’t put Google on a pedestal for competition, but they aren’t telling users not to use OpenDNS.

If somebody in a family is in service, the whole family is in service. I didn’t know that. I didn’t know our veterans were being deployed seven, eight, nine, 10 times. It’s inhumane.

If someone wants to transmit a high-quality service with no interruptions and ‘guaranteed this, guaranteed that,’ they should be willing to pay for that.

If the king refuses the constitution, I shall oppose him; if he accepts it, I shall defend him; and the day on which he gave himself up as my prisoner secured me more fully to his service than if he had promised me half his kingdom.

If the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s civil rights movement made demands that altered the course of American lives and backed up those demands with the willingness to give up your life in service of your civil rights, with Black Lives Matter, a more internalized change is being asked for: recognition.

If there was a mobility service that’s cheaper than owning a car, more reliable, and you get to sit in the back seat instead of being stressed out in the front seat, why would you own a car?

If these hands, used to fighting, would be acceptable to His Holiness, we most thankfully dedicate them to the service of him who deserves so well of the Church and of the fatherland.

If this liberal potential is properly channeled, we may expect the area of freedom of the United States to increase. The problem is to spend up our rate of social invention in the service of the welfare of all the people.

If this work can contribute in any way toward proving this, and at the same time arouse the conscience of the American people to a demand for justice to every citizen, and punishment by law for the lawless, I shall feel I have done my race a service.

If we can make great games for PS3 players… how many PS3 players are out there? If we can make great games for everybody, that’s a much bigger service. There’s no reason I shouldn’t do that.

If we do not lay out ourselves in the service of mankind whom should we serve?

If we want boys to succeed, we need to bring them back to education by making education relevant to them and bring in more service learning and vocational education.

If you are a serious writer or just a normal one, in one way or another, you are writing in the service of freedom. All writers know, understand, or dream that their work will be in the service of freedom.

If you are just using the service to look at Web sites and download e-mail, then a DSL line may be cheaper. It is when you have more data going out that wireless can make a difference.

If you are ready to put a product or service on the market, look at that product or service and see how you can test it inexpensively. Keep in mind, you’ll only need one; you don’t need 1,000 to get the answer.

If you believe you can make a difference, not just in politics, in public service, in advocacy around all these important issues, then you have to be prepared to accept that you are not going to get 100 percent approval.

If you can help anyone in any way, that is what we are here for. The pinnacle of my life has really been two lives – golf and service to my fellow man.

If you can make it economical for people to get out of their cars or sell their cars, and turn transportation into a service, it’s a pretty big deal.

If you can’t get cell phone service in your living room, then your particular provider is failing you. You should have the option to find a network that does work.

If you create incredible value and information for others that can change their lives – and you always stay focused on that service – the financial success will follow.

If you don’t like public service, don’t run for office.

If you go to a coffee shop or at the airport, and you’re using open wireless, I would use a VPN service that you could subscribe for 10 bucks a month. Everything is encrypted in an encryption tunnel, so a hacker cannot tamper with your connection.

If you just needed the skills to pass the bar, two years would be enough. But if you think of law as a learned profession, then a third year is an opportunity for, on the one hand, public service and practice experience, but on the other, also to take courses that round out the law that you didn’t have time to do.

If you look at men’s roles for the last thousand years, the desire is fundamental. We want to take care of, provide for, and be of service to… women.

If you look at the history of the letter in the novel, small changes in the British postal service became really significant because of how quickly people are suddenly able to communicate, and letters actually arrive at the intended time, and they arrive to the correct recipient. All of this is really important to a plot.

If you look at the origins of the postal service in the U.S., the founding fathers created it to protect democratic rights.

If you look at why people are paid to do things, it’s because they’re creating a good or delivering a service that’s valuable to somebody. There’s just as much potential for that in these virtual environments as there is in the real world.

If you say actors have a social responsibility to do things, you are right, in a way. It’s a wishful decision. But if it’s done out of force, I don’t think it will accomplish anything. Everybody starts counting how much work they have done and see if they have done their due for the week. That is not social service. You need to go way beyond that.

If you subscribe to any online service, whether it be AOL, Google, Yahoo, or the Huffington Post, have you noticed that you are forced to watch a seemingly endless ad before the video story appears about a news item that caught your eye? AOL and the Huffington Post are especially annoying.

If you think about it, if you’ve ever been to a Catholic service, it’s practically a laser light show. It’s very dramatic, very theatrical. The outfits they wear, it’s all designed to be impressive.

If you think about what the Postal Service fundamentally does, those guys are trained to get mail and sort mail – there’s trust verification.

If you wake up in the morning and your favorite artist isn’t on the service that you’re paying ten dollars a month for, sooner or later you lose faith in the subscription model.

If you want a free email service that doesn’t use your words to target ads to you, you’ll have to figure out how to port years and years of Gmail messages somewhere else, which is about as easy as developing your own free email service.

If you want quality service, you have to pay for it. You don’t buy into waste. I have great misgivings about the amount of advertising that we see in the health care field, some by hospitals, a lot by drug companies.

If your goal is to provide a service at terms your customers can afford, you have to figure out how to offer your services at price points such that your aggregated costs are lower than your aggregated revenues.

If you’re coming from America to Iraq, then how are you supposed to be objective? I mean, you could pay lip service to being objective, but how are you going to objective when you’re embedded with the Marines? The Marines are saving your life every day and they’re protecting you.

If you’re entering anything where there’s an existing marketplace, against large, entrenched competitors, then your product or service needs to be much better than theirs. It can’t be a little bit better, because then you put yourself in the shoes of the consumer… you’re always going to buy the trusted brand unless there’s a big difference.

If, in the schools, the classical language would no longer be taught, whom could we entrust with the writing of memorials, documents, letters and notes in the public service? How could we possibly assign important offices and heavy responsibilities to someone who cannot even write fluently?

Immigrant parents dream that their children will find a place in their new home, and they willingly suffer hardships in service to that dream. That was certainly true of my parents.

In 1916 I was discharged from military service, or rather, given a sort of leave of absence on the understanding that I might be recalled within a few months. And so I was a free man, at least for a while.

In 1925, when Britain went back to the gold standard, that was supported by the Conservative Party, the Labour Party, the Bank of England, the civil service, the CBI, the TUC, the Times, the Economist; that consensus was very strong.

In 1939, Fitzroy Maclean, a gangly Highland aristocrat in his early 30s, was serving as a British diplomat in the U.S.S.R. Disgusted by the Soviet show trials, he quit the Foreign Service and would go on to serve with Tito’s partisans fighting the Germans in Yugoslavia.

In 1962, Popjak and I left the service of the Medical Research Council and became co-directors of the Milstead Laboratory of Chemical Enzymology set up by Shell Research Ltd.

In 1971, near the middle of Nixon’s first term, he approved a plan to install a White House taping system as a way of preserving an accurate chronicle of important discussions and decisions. Except for Nixon, three aides, and the Secret Service, no one knew about the listening devices.

In giving us children, God places us in a position of both leadership and service. In January 1944 I was called up by the Forced Labor Service, but I deserted on October 10, 1944.

In Japan, the attention to detail in customer service is an experience that is unlike anywhere else. It’s really quite special. In L.A., I get a meal delivery service called Diet Designs. I like a nice butter lettuce salad with some avocado, fresh grapefruit, shredded chicken breast and raw almond slices with a sesame vinaigrette dressing. I also love juicing and am kind of obsessed with it.

In refugee camps around the world, I met people who were gone. They were still walking around but had lost so much that they were unable to claim any sort of identity. Increased spiritual strength is a gift from God which He can give when we push in His service to our limits. Through the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, our natures can be changed. It’s counterproductive to lower my price, because I have to sell more units to make up for that lost revenue. Generating brand-new products can take a long time. Improving service is typically the quickest way that I can take market share. So aligning technology strategy to better service customers becomes an essential path to revenue growth.

It’s easy to grow 300% in your first year or two, when you’re starting with nothing and people first hear about your service. What separates a potential colossus from other businesses is the capacity to keep growing at that rate in years four, five, and beyond.

It’s fun to get a message on the phone service that Lucille Ball or Burt Reynolds called, and play it very blase by asking, ‘Anyone else?’

We should be installing it in our major cities.

It’s sad that we have become so accustomed to bad service that we’re shocked when we get good service.

I’m benefitting from the sacrifices and seeds sown by Shirley Chisholm, John Lewis, and so many others. Those of us who are beneficiaries owe it to have a season of service in which we try to give back.

I’m extremely proud of my family’s record of public service to Massachusetts and the nation.

I’m fascinated by how much has changed from one generation to another. There are young people growing up now for whom apartheid is just a distant memory and the idea of military service is an abstract notion.

I’m glad that people know my military service. But, like this nation, we are more than our military. And the rest of our story is the same as the rest of my story.

I’m going to explore the possibility that my future work could be in public service rather than corporate work.

I’m old, I’m used to crummy service, I’m trained to get crummy service. To me, the fact I can get through to a call centre and then hold for 15 minutes, I don’t get that upset. My kids won’t. They want to know the answer to their question now. As a company you have to provide an answer to that consumer.

I’m still one who says that we can get rid of the Internal Revenue Service if we would pass the fair tax, which is a tax on consumption rather than a tax on people’s income, and move power back where the founders believed it should have been all along.

I’m too frightened of confrontation, so I will always tip – even if the service has been really shoddy.

I’m very goal-oriented. I do see myself doing something in public service.

I’m very grateful that I have one of those faces that seems to blend back into the crowd. A lot of people pay lip service to wanting a normal life, but it’s actually very important to me.

I’m working harder than ever now, and I’m putting on my pants the same as I always have. I just get up every day and try to do a little better than the day before, and that is to run a great restaurant with great food, great wine, and great service. That’s my philosophy.

I’m, you know, having begun my public service in state government. I very much respect the authority of states to make the decisions to provide for its citizen – the safety and welfare of its citizens.

I’ve always tried to set some kind of goal. I want to be better than anybody in the banking business, and when I ran the Highway Department in Georgia, I wanted it to be the best in the country. And of course, I have a high sense of public service.

I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was 18. I started a company with a bunch of buddies that got funded in my senior year, and that’s when I finished school. It was called Scour, a peer-to-peer service, file-sharing.

I’ve been in the service industry. I’ve bar-tended. I’ve waited tables, and I’ve worked at pizza places; I’ve made pizza. I’ve had a lot of jobs, and many of them were in the food service industry.

I’ve had a lot of fun, and when I talk to kids in journalism schools, I say, look, I know what the journalism teachers tell you that this is a great way to perform public service and all that, but I say the main reason, if you decide what you want to do is be a reporter, the main reason you want to do it is because it’s just so much fun.

I’ve had filmmakers, I even had Bono come and talk to me about having a sequel to ‘E.T.’ help with an environmental message – I listened. I can certainly understand. I mean, the great thing about Bono is that everything he does is in service to a greater cause.

I’ve had the honor and privilege of knowing Jeff for over 25 years. He’s been a dear friend and a mentor, and there is no finer person in public service than Jeff Sessions. He’s conducted himself with the greatest integrity of any public official I’ve ever met.

I’ve had the struggling actor experience. At one point in New York, I was holding four jobs, including bottle service girl, while I was trying to break into acting.

I’ve met so many real heroes, people whose service has given me the life I’m lucky to live on U.S. soil.

I’ve never wanted to get adjusted to my income, because I knew I wanted to go back to public service. And in comparison to what my mother earns and how I was raised, it’s not modest at all. I have no right to complain.

I’ve not conducted my life in the service of smallness.

I’ve only paid lip service to a spiritual life.

I’ve spent quality time in the aerospace community, with my service on two presidential commissions, but at heart, I’m an academic. Being an academic means I don’t wield power over person, place or thing. I don’t command armies; I don’t lead labor unions. All I have is the power of thought.

I’ve worked as grocery store cashier; I’ve worked at a bank call center and as a Lady Liberty for Liberty Tax Service dancing around with the sign for a while.

I’ve worked at a Game Stop and had my service turned down before because of the color of my skin. And it’s a shame.

I’ve worked on a variety of campaigns and fought for a variety of conservative causes for a long time. But it wasn’t until I came back from my military service that I realized I needed to devote myself to others.

I’ve worked with a lot of gay and lesbian organizations. I sit on the board of the Empire State Pride Agenda. I’ve also done a lot of work for Broadway Care/Equity Fights AIDS. John Kerry’s service did not end in Vietnam. It began there.

John Spratt did a great job of constituent service. When somebody had a problem, he would jump on it. The reason I ran against him was that he was one way in the district and then when he got to Washington, he voted the opposite.

Kids get a lot of lip service in disaster planning, but they tend to get far fewer resources than they need. The mantra of ‘children are our most valuable resource’ is almost never matched by actual funding.

Know how and how much to tip people who expect gratuities, even in the case of poor service.

Landowners and influential men of all kinds, especially members of political councils, ought to set an example to the people. The young members of rich families should offer themselves for military service. If not one of two sons, at least one of three sons should be ready to do so.

Launch your product or service before you have funding. See how people respond to it before you have a PowerPoint and business plan – have something people can use, and go from there.

Launching a successful product or startup has little to do with luck. Any business that gains traction on the market is the result of very careful strategizing and market analysis, not to mention the development of an original product or service.

Law is not a profession at all, but rather a business service station and repair shop.

Leadership is service to others.

Let us also reflect on the honorable service of our men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces currently serving our country overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan, and around the world.

Let us go forward in this battle fortified by conviction that those who labour in the service of a great and good cause will never fail.

Let’s make sure that we don’t close down 37 of the 42 clinics in Texas and leave women with nowhere to go and put them in a situation where their health will be at risk, because what we do know is that closing down the ability to access that service unfortunately does not take the need away or women’s confronting that issue away.

Let’s start with a basic question: Do we, as a country, want our most highly qualified employees from the private sector to pursue public service? The answer, I would imagine, should be yes.

Life is a crusade in the service of God. Whether we wished to or not, we set out as crusaders to free – not the Holy Sepulcher – but that God buried in matter and in our souls.

Like a lot of people, I’m interested in public service and want to do as much as I can to change the direction of this country and will give some consideration to that after midterm elections.

Like cars, every relationship requires a bit of an occasional service, and fine-tuning should be compulsory.

Like other universities do, Liberty hosts a number of events for outside organizations, businesses, and schools simply because we have the facilities that can accommodate them. It is a form of community service by Liberty and, because we are centrally located in the state, our campus is a good option for state events.

Like the Negro League players, I traveled through the segregated south as a young man. Because I was black, I was denied service at many restaurants and could only drink from water fountains marked ‘Colored.’ When I went to the movies, I would have to sit in the Colored balcony.

Living in London, you feel the sense of how it has developed into a service city. People come here from around the world – both to launder their money and launder their reputations.

Living in the fishbowl is hard enough without worrying about a Secret Service that can’t keep mum.

Look at all the marriages that have been wonderfully successful where fellows finished their army service and came home to go to college on G.I. bills and their wives worked.

Man can never be a woman’s equal in the spirit of selfless service with which nature has endowed her.

Managers of hospitals over the years have been increasingly recruited from outside the health service, and although their experience of running a supermarket chain might allow them to balance the books, it does not mean they have any insight into how a ward should be managed and patients best served.

Many are attracted to social service – the rewards are immediate, the gratification quick. But if we have social justice, we won’t need social service.

Many business owners dream of having their product or service endorsed by a global celebrity. But instead of trying to get a superstar to support your business, try seeking out a local celebrity instead.

Many corporate leaders and employees have the right intentions, but it can be overwhelming when you consider how everything is affected from leadership styles, to organizational structure, to employee engagement, to customer service an marketplace.

Many schools include a service project as part of their curriculum, and many corporations have in-house projects for their employees or give them time off to do volunteer work.

Many soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from serious, long-term, physical and mental health problems, due to their service. It is unconscionable to cut the already limited health care benefits available to these brave men and women.

Maybe the answer to Selective Service is to start everyone off in the army and draft them for civilian life as needed.

Megaupload was a dual-use technology. You can use it for good things, and you can use it for bad things. If someone sends something illegal in an envelope through your postal service, you don’t shut down the post office. If someone speeds with the car he just bought, you don’t go to the car manufacturer and say, ‘Hey, we’re shutting you down.’

Memorial Day isn’t just about honoring veterans, its honoring those who lost their lives. Veterans had the fortune of coming home. For us, that’s a reminder of when we come home we still have a responsibility to serve. It’s a continuation of service that honors our country and those who fell defending it.

Memorial Service: Farewell party for someone who already left.

Micropayments are great if you use them for a product or service with certain properties. It must be one where you can get away with usage-based pricing, and where there is a strong rationale for making it cheap, yet not free.

Microprocessors were instantly attractive to us because you could build something for a fraction of the cost of conventional electronics. That’s essentially what we did with the Traf-O-Data computer – only it was too narrow and challenging an area to try to build a service business in.

Mike Hall was my old friend and, more important, the finest soldier I’d ever known. After over 30 years of service and then 18 months at a good civilian job, a phone call had brought the retired command sergeant major back on active duty to become the senior enlisted adviser of all international forces in Afghanistan.

Mike Hodge is someone I’ve counted on for strong, steady leadership from the very start of my union service, and he has never failed to deliver.

Military service might sound like a totally different environment, but every experience you fall back on later, it makes you smarter. Why wouldn’t that be true of the military, too?

More than an actor, I am a performer… I’m a great believer – honestly so, shamelessly so, vulgarly so – that cinema is for entertainment. If you want to send messages, there’s the postal service.

Most Americans pay lip service to the idea of freedom, but can’t handle real freedom.

Most believers struggle to really believe in the supernatural as a meaningful, deterministic reality except during moments when they are drawn to it, perhaps during a worship service or while reading a novel like ‘Adam.’ Being drawn to this truth is the first step to living a life in accordance to this truth.

Most days, I have a slice of toast, then lie in a hot bath for an hour to get up a sweat. I have a sauna at the racecourse and then go and ride. On the way home, I might stop at a service station and have a bar of chocolate and a Diet Coke. And that’s it, basically.

Most of the results of using technical bugging devices were of little importance for my service. It may have been different in counter-intelligence, where bugs in flats, etc., were used to obtain a lot of information about what counter-intelligence was interested in.

Most people privilege the technology, almost as if actors are in service to the machine.

Most private sector workers can only dream of getting the generous lifetime pension and health benefits typical of government service.

Music videos were this lucky career opportunity. They were assignments. I was providing a service, and they were meant to be punchy and gimmicky and fun.

My agenda for national public service would provide a pathway to the middle class for all Americans and would ensure that those who dedicate themselves to their communities are rewarded for their efforts.

My assumption when I began writing was that you were never going to make any money. And you were never going to reach everyone. Therefore you had to do as much as you could in the service of something you genuinely believed in. And if you do that and people get upset, well, there you go.

My belief and goal is that every professional in the world should be on a service liked LinkedIn.

My biggest concern is the abundance of public doubt and misunderstanding when it comes to Twitter’s vision and the near future for the service.

My career with the Navy and NASA gave me an incredible chance to showcase public service to which I am dedicated, and what we can accomplish on the big challenges of our day.

My contention is that if we expand the patient-centered health care approach, we’ll have less people that have to go the medical clinic that provides free service or go to the emergency room – they can have their own health care plan.

My dad spent most of the ’50s and early ’60s actually acting as sort of an advance man for the Justice Department, as a civil rights lawyer. So it was actually reading his papers after he passed away a few years ago that first started me thinking about this… What fraction of your life do you spend in service to your fellow man?

My dad was in the Navy, and I was raised with a strong commitment to service.

My dad was in the service, so I went to 12 schools in 13 years.

My dad worked for the Fish and Wildlife Service, and he worked for the Department of Interior, you know, like the federal government. And consequently, I was outdoors a lot in my lifetime.

My DNA is building a product and a service.

My dream was always to have a stamp. I feel like people who have a stamp really did something. They really did some acts of service.

My elder brothers were all put apprentices to different trades. I was put to the grammar-school at eight years of age, my father intending to devote me, as the tithe of his sons, to the service of the Church.

My election results speak to my level of service.

My father had been in the German Diplomatic Service, and although he had been in the United States since World War II and out of diplomacy, it was something that was very much talked about in the family. So when I went to college, it was always my intention to try to get into the Foreign Service.

My father taught us that to thrive, excellence in technology, quality, and customer service along with cost competitiveness is a prerequisite. His contribution to business, the economy, and society at large can never be underscored enough.

My father was a Foreign Service officer, a diplomat and an Arabist who spent virtually all his career in the Near East, as it was called in the State Department. So I spent most of my childhood among the Israelis and the Arabs of Palestine, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

My father was a man who didn’t consider himself learned. He was a man who liked to be a farmer. He enjoyed his dairy farm and felt the calling. So there was a dedication. I was dedicated as a child to the service of God, and so there was this continual centering of a greater purpose than your own.

My father was an officer in the Army, and my grandfather served in World War II, and I am so proud of their service. I’ll always do whatever I can to support our troops.

My father was in the military; he was a captain. His service was to quote-unquote integrate the Armed Forces overseas.

My father was in the service. His job was to integrate the Armed Forces overseas. So that meant we showed up at military bases in Okinawa or Germany, racially unannounced. That made me, in that particular society if you will, the outsider.

My father went into the armed service and I never saw my mother – I don’t know what happened to her.

My financial service business is the absolute best thing I have done to empower the poor. I run many charities and fight many political causes, but my financial service company is the greatest gift I’ve given.

My grandmother didn’t live to see us begin our lives in public service. But she probably would have thought it extraordinary that just two generations after she arrived in San Antonio, one grandson would be the mayor and the other would be on his way – the good people of San Antonio willing- to the United States Congress.

My grandmother had great influence on me. She was secretary of state in the 1970’s, and that’s when I was born. She showed me the importance of public service, and she was admired by people regardless of their political party.
